Why How What

Who are the Boys and Girls Clubs of MS?

The short answer is they have been here since 1936. They inspire and enable inner city "at risk" kids that need them most. This is not a faith-based initiative but it is still a ministry. They have basically doubled their budgets, facilities and kids in the last ten years. Today they serve 3200 kids and provide 750,000 hrs of service per year.

Why does the BGC need so much and not have much time to raise it? If that happens, what happens next year?

The BGC saw a down economy and began making cuts in hours and staff to prepare for lesser funds. However, the magnitude of the "lessness" caught the organization off-guard, and they own that. They needed to raise $500K to keep all of their centers open and all of the communities served. Without the funding, up to 3 centers and 1200 kids are in jeopardy of losing their facilities and programs. Parents who cannot find alternative solutions will have unsupervised children in at risk areas after school.

This fundraiser is to take care of the immediate need. $215K of the $500K has already been raised. The BGC has already started securing additional grants for 2010, and has thus far secured $130K in additional funds for next year.
